THE JOURNEY
THE JOURNEY
a community of people following Jesus & making disciples
WHAT TO EXPECT
Walking into a new place can be intimidating, but we'd like to make it easy!
At a weekend service, you can expect:
-a friendly casual environment. Come as you are!
-good coffee, real creamer, bagels, donuts and fruit: before and after the service. Get up for more anytime!
-the service will last 55-65 minutes
-thought-provoking messages based on the Bible
-a time of singing led by a team of musicians
-fun and relevant teaching for your kids
Our worship gatherings usually include worship through music, the preaching of God’s Word, prayer and use of the arts. We also periodically celebrate baptism and communion together.
Next steps can include:
-celebrating together what God is doing in our lives and in our world
-connecting through events, Bible studies and get togethers
-contributing by serving, giving, and helping the church and the community
Our prayer is that you would feel welcomed and that you wouldn’t leave the building thinking about how cool our artwork was, how funny the preacher was, or how awesome the guitar player in the band was. We want you to leave our gathering amazed at God’s radical love expressed through the finished work of Jesus Christ. If you don’t remember anything when you leave our gathering except how radically awesome Jesus is, we view that as a huge success.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
We believe the Bible is God’s true, authoritative, inspired Word, written down by people who stated precisely what God’s Spirit moved them to say. The words of Scripture are without error and reveal who God is by pointing to Jesus Christ.
God is holy and he is love. He is all-powerful and all knowing. God exists as one essence in three distinct and equal persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Out of the outflow of his triune love, God created this world and called it good. He created Adam and Eve in his image, to live in right relationship with himself and with each other, and to have stewardship over creation. Their rebellion against God resulted in their alienation from him and from each other and corrupted the entire creation. Their sin is our sin. All of us are born guilty and corrupted, willfully choosing to go our own way. We deserve to die and be forever separated from God.
But God loves us so much he sent his Son to save us from our sin. A restored relationship with God comes through Jesus Christ alone, and not through our own efforts. Our fully divine and fully human Savior established God’s kingdom through word and deed. Jesus’ sinless life enabled him to become a sacrifice for our sins by dying on a cross. His bodily resurrection was necessary to defeat Sin, Death, and Satan. He ascended to Heaven where he reigns as King and prays for us before the Father.
God forgives all who repent of their sin and put their faith in his Son. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to call us to himself, give us new life, adopt us into the family of God, and equip us with spiritual gifts to serve others. The church is the body of Christ on earth. We gather together under the authority of Jesus to learn and grow in faith, and we scatter to embody kingdom values, serving others and caring for creation in Jesus’ name.
Jesus will return in power and glory to defeat evil, judge the world, and make all things right. Those who reject Christ will be separated from God for eternity. Those who receive Christ will rise again to reign forever with Jesus on the new heaven and earth. Come quickly, Lord Jesus!
We affirm the Apostles’ Creed
Baptism and Communion: We believe that baptism and the Lord’s Supper are to be observed until the time of Christ’s return. They are not a means of salvation. Baptism in water is for believers and is a symbol of the Christian’s identification with Christ in death, burial and resurrection.
